In our journey through life, we have two choices — learn or battle. Learn to rely on God or rely on ourself and face battle after battle.

In our journey through life, God is always there. God is either our guide or He is waiting on the sidelines for us to turn to and rely on Him. Relying on ourselves and trying to do things on our own instead of seeking God’s will and relying on Him, always gets us into trouble. We have two choices — learn or battle. Learn to rely on God or rely on ourself and face battle after battle.
Who or what are you relying? Where does your security come from? Does it come from God, or does it come from how much money you have in the banks or in stocks, how much your house is worth, rich relatives or good friends? If you are putting your trust in any of the above instead of God, you aren’t as secure as you think.
The stock market is like a roller coaster ride. House values can go up and down. They have in the past and they probably will again. Your friends may be dealing with their own problems and hoping they can count on you to help them out. Your relatives may not be as rich as you think, and they may have their own problems.
Relying on yourself instead of Go can bring you nothing but trouble, not just spiritual trouble but more importantly spiritual trouble. Because relying on yourself means you have taken your eyes off God.
Relying on God doesn’t mean your life will be perfect with no sorrow, trials, or tribulations. Relying on God means you will have the inner peace of knowing that God uses all situations for His glory and that whatever you are going through God will see you through. Relying on God brings you peace, strength, and rest. Relying on God means you are walking in His will and in God’s will is the safest place to be.
You’ve heard me do the poem about tranquility or peace. I’ll choose peace any day over tranquility because as the poem says tranquility can go in a flash. Trouble comes, trials come, hard times come – there goes your tranquility. But no matter what you’re going through, the peace of God will always be there. For somebody who doesn’t know God, it’s the peace of God which surpasses all understanding because they don’t understand how you can have peace going through all this crud, but we do.
Yesterday was March 16. Our church made tee shirts that said 3:16 – not John 3:16. Wearing those shirts is a really good opener. People will ask what it means and there’s your opening. I always ask the Lord to open the door. My husband, a sports guy, always says where’s the ball because he’s ready to swing.
