On My Mind

Complacency kills. It extinguishes the fire in our heart.

Complacency kills. It’s easy to fall into complacency. It can happen to anyone. Complacency extinguishes the fire within our heart. Jesus doesn’t want us living complacent lives. He wants us living fruitful lives and doing His work.

Complacency Kills

Here’s a scenario

We’ve come out of a valley. Things are going great. We’re on top of the mountain sitting back and relaxing, enjoying the life we have. Oh, those weekend days, sleeping late (no alarm to wake us up), sitting on the porch in our “comfy” clothes, enjoying our morning drink, watching the birds, letting our minds drift, enjoying the time with our spouse.

Complacency kills. It extinguishes the fire in our heart.

Contrast the above with this scenario

The alarm goes off, time to get up and dressed for church. Eat breakfast in a hurry and grab your drink on the way out. The porch will have to wait.

It Only Takes One

Of course, we look forward to going to church. We get blessed and fed for the coming days. But it only takes one time of deciding to stay home and enjoy the porch. We can rationalize it by saying we can always watch the service on YouTube later. But having done it once, it’s easier to do it again. The porch beckons, we answer the call and it’s not long before complacency sets in.

One Cost of Complacency

Reward in Heaven is based on what we do here on earth (according to our labor here for the Lord). Jesus will recompense everyone according to their deeds.

When we all get to Heaven, we will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ to be judged for our works done in this world, both good and bad. As believers, in order to enter Heaven, we will be counted as righteous because of our faith in Jesus, but we will then receive rewards and crowns for our faithfulness and good works in this world.
